A good book

"What if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy?"

For our anniversary my parents gave us a copy of Gary Thomas' Sacred Marriage. When we got married we received and bought a few books on marriage. So when we got yet another book I was thinking that it would be "just another book on marriage." Well, I haven't gotten very far in the book so far, but what I've read so far I've enjoyed.

The whole book is written on the premise that God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy. Most of the book deals with marriage but I have been thinking and realizing that God brings people into our lives (not just spouses) because He was us to be holier as we interact with these people.

I think Jesus knew it would be hard for us to love others around us when He commanded us to love others as we love ourselves. I think I love myself a little too much when I look around at the people that surround me and when I wonder if I really do love them as much as I love myself. So many times I look at my friendships and other relationships thinking, "What can this person give me?

"My dear children, let's not just talk about love; let's practice real love. This is the only way we'll know we're living truly, living in God's reality. It's also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves"
I John 3:18-20 (The Message)

So its time to practice real love! Have a great day!

Krista, I read a little more yesterday. It has not only made me think of ways I can better my marriage but ways that I can better my relationship with God. I'll post more as I read more! Thanks for the comment. :)
