It all began an early, Wednesday morning when I packed up my bags. The car was clean, the oil changed, the trunk full and I was ready for an adventure. After saying my goodbyes to my honey, I headed up the road. Over the next two days I spent a fair (ok, a LOT!) of time on the road. It does take about 15 hours to get from San Diego to Oregon, after all.
The fun part was that I got to make a few stops along the way so the long trip didn't seem so bad after all. First, I picked up my friend Kariss and we headed up the road for our first stop. We spent the evening and night near Sacramento visiting our dear college friend Sarah.
The next morning, after saying our goodbyes, we took off for northern California. I remember making the trip when I was a kid and I am so glad I was able to do it again as an adult. There are so many places that I went to as a kid that I don't even remember (however, the pictures prove I was there). So, yes, Northern California is quite beautiful. We drove over Shasta Lake and I had to do all I could do not swerve into the middle divider as I looked over and saw the beauty of the water. It was truly breathtaking. And then we drove by the snow-capped Mount Shasta. Quite a beauty also.
We arrived at our final destination on Thursday evening and were happily greeted at the door by friends from long ago. Our dear friend Abby was getting married on Saturday and several of us college friends were there. It was so wonderful to be able to be there a couple days ahead of time to help out and catch up with friends.
Kariss and I had the privilege of staying at the home of some people we had never even met. They had left for the weekend and let us stay in their home. It was a nice getaway and a great place to relax. Even though, it was a bit scary...
Yes, that is a mountain goat head hanging on the wall. Not being accustomed to seeing animal heads hanging on the walls, Kariss and I thought it was quite amusing. Ok, and maybe even a little scary. We did not sleep in a room with a head because we were a little frightened! (There were several rooms with moose heads, mountain lion skins, etc).
The wedding and rehearsal went well and we had a great time. I could explain it all, but pictures really are worth a thousand words...
And on the wedding day...
The next day we packed our bags once again and made the long trek back. I decided to stop in and see my parents so that's where Kariss and I parted ways. It was a great trip and really made me glad for friends. As the years go by, it becomes harder and harder to keep in touch with friend from all our walks of life. You do what you can to keep in touch with a few. These girls are priceless and I'm glad to call each of them friends.

Ann,
What a fun road trip we had! I am so glad we went. :)
And our friends we met along the way are true treasure (even the mounted ones on the wall).
Kariss
(Smile :) *sigh* It was so good to have you here. Thank you so much for coming and helping and generally enhancing our special day with your presence. I have yet to get thank yous out, but the awesome pic that you and Michael gave us is currently hanging on our wall and we have sorbet in our freezer thanks to the icecream maker! Also....we are looking for a place to store a bear rug (complete with head and feet) what is your address again?? :) :)
