Flowering Cactus

Flowering Cactus

Our backyard is a mixture of all different kinds of plants. When we moved in, there were several cacti. They certainly are easy to take care of as far as watering goes, but I have gotten a few needles in my skin while weeding! A couple weeks ago I noticed a flower on the cactus.

And it made me think.

Sometimes beauty can come from pain or a situation that doesn't appear to be beautiful. A cactus isn't always beautiful (I do have other plants I like more!) but when that flower opened up, the cactus suddenly became beautiful.

It was a great reminder from God that you must expect the unexpected. You never know when a beautiful flower is going to appear.

What a great insight and how true!
Only the Lord can make something beautiful out of what we would consider either ordinary, plain or even ugly! Only He can bring light out of the darkness...afterall, He did create the cactus, so it had to be beautiful in some way, right?:)

My parents have had 2 cacti for a long time...one since they got married and one since I was born...twice a year, at Easter and Christmas time, they bloom! The flowers only last for 24 hours, but the beautiful lavender and the strong perfume take your breath away...I do remember having no problem watering them, but I also do remember the pain when my fingers would bleed from the needles...BUT when the blooms would appear all the pain was forgotten:)
