Yes, the saying often goes "No news is good news" but in this case I'm not sure if no news really is good news. It's not really bad news either. Things are happening, but not at a very fast rate! Last Wednesday we had an appointment with the midwife and we got the latest update on what is happening with Baby Girl and my progression with labor so far. She was the most animated midwife I have seen so far - what a fire cracker! I was trying to decide if having her in the labor room with me would make me feel more at ease or if she would get on my nerves because she was so excited. I would much rather have a happy, upbeat midwife than one who is too quiet and reserved. Anyways...
To make a long story short, she checked me and was surprised to announce than I was about 2 cm dilated already. She said that was on the conservative end and that some might say 3cm or even 4cm. What surprised me is that I have gotten to this point with relatively little pain. I have only been having minor contractions/cramps so it was nice to hear the good news.
She mentioned that since I haven't experienced many contractions yet that it might be a good idea for me to go to the birth center sooner once I do start having contractions. She said that I might be one of those few that goes a little faster than normal. Then she proceeded to tell us the story of a lady that had her baby on her living room floor because they didn't make it to the hospital on time. Thankfully, our birth center is just up the road so it is highly unlikely that I wouldn't make it there on time.
So now we wait, wait and wait some more for Baby Girl to arrive. This morning we went on a nice, long walk. This afternoon we might go for another walk. Maybe this weekend I'll even try some Castor oil even though I'm not exactly looking forward to it. We are doing all that we can to try and "encourage" Baby Girl to come out a little sooner than later. My official due date is on Monday so we still have a few days until she's labeled "overdue".
On Monday we have an appointment with the doctors. It looks like the midwives and doctors will be working together to allow me to go past 40 weeks and still be able to deliver in the birth center, which I am very grateful for. Hopefully, Baby Girl will come sooner than Monday and we won't even have to worry about going to that appointment. But we rest in God's perfect timing so we'll just wait to see what happens!
I have been having more and more contractions but it's all pre-labor. Basically, nothing too regular. We'll see what happens in the next hours...or days!
