As I cleaned I was reminded that in order for something to be clean, we have to become aware of what is dirty. I can't dust the shelves unless I can see that there is dirt.
I feel the same way about my life sometimes. I want to be clean. I want Jesus to change me.
And yet, I am not always aware of what is dirty. Sometimes I hide something I know does not please the Lord. I find it easier to shove it under the bed and not deal with it.
But God wants all the dirt to come into the light. In John 3 it says Jesus, the light, came into the world but the world loved darkness more than light. We love darkness more than light because in the light our deeds are exposed. Who we truly are is exposed when we come into the glorious light of Jesus.
In the same passage it also says that Jesus came into the world do save the world, not to condemn it. He did not come to tell us we were sinners. We are sinners. We hide ourselves from God sometimes. Jesus came to save us.
I'll go back to my cleaning, reminded that just like I want a nice, clean house, Jesus wants a heart that is clean and pure also.
I pray that today God will show you and me what it is in our lives that needs change. Jesus came to save us from all of that.
He loves us.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through him.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned,
but whoever does not believe stands condemned already
because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world,
but men loved darkness instead of light
because their deeds were evil.
Everyone who does evil hates the light,
and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light,
so that it may be seen plainly
that what he has done has been done through God."
John 3:16-21

I too love to clean and organize! Sometimes I cannot even eat if the surroundings are not clean or things are not picked up...you made such a neat comparison, Ann, and I am once again encouraged and convicted to really look deeply into my soul and let the Lord see the dirt that He needs to dust off and clean up...thank you for this reminder!
