Thoughts

Just last week I started reading Donald Miller's Blue Like Jazz. At first, I didn't really want to read the book because everyone was reading it. The curiosity finally got to me, so I decided to check it out from the library.

It's been an interesting read so far. I enjoy his style of writing - as if he's just writing about things he learned a long the way. He has a very personal approach.

As I've been reading I was struck with two different ideas and I've been thinking about them.

"I believe that the greatest trick of the devil is not to get us into some sort of evil but rather have us wasting time. This is why the devil tries so hard to get Christians to be religious. If he can't sink a man's mind into habit, he will prevent his heart from engaging God."

The first sentence in particular is what struck me. I feel like I waste so much time during my week. I don't feel compelled to go rob a bank or commit a terrible sin. But I feel as though the biggest thing I struggle with in my life is with what I don't do. I pray my heart will not "sink into habit". I want to wake up each day and ask God want He wants me to do that day. With God as my "agenda-maker" I am sure not to waste my time.

"I didn't love God because I didn't know God."

How different our lives would be if we strove each day to know God. The more you know someone the more you love them. A friend and I are keeping each other accountable on our Bible reading. It's a struggle sometimes. How can we love the King of the Universe more and more each day if we don't spend time getting to know Him and His Word?

Well, just a little food for thought. I'm sure I'll find more interesting thoughts as I keep reading!

Keep reading the book, Bella! It seems such a convicting and an eye-opener read. Those are indeed some really good points! In one of my Bible Studies I've learned that the more we study the Scriptures, the more we become part of the passages...how true, isn't it? As we strive to study God's Word and learn of His will, we draw closer to Him...the devil wants us to become captive and chained away from a close relationship with Christ...that's why he tries every day to oppress us, but we are free in Jesus, and He is always here with us each step of the way...so keep on memorizing the Word and reading books that encourage you about the Lord and the enemy will become weak in his attacks...easier said than done, I know...In another Bible Study, I am learning about breaking free from bondage...growing from the enemy's captivity into the Lord's liberty...even as Christians, we are all in some ways captive...that is why we need the Lord's Word every day.

Thank you for such great insights and know that the closer you get to Jesus the stronger the enemy will try to attack...but, hey, he has already been defeated!!!
