Baby Talk

It seems like all that is on our (well, at least mine) minds these days is baby! It is strange how the transition occurs. Sea Monkey has managed to take over our lives and he/she isn't even "here" yet. My days are spent finding clothes that fit me, going to the doctor, thinking about the kiddo, feeding the kiddo good food, etc. I have the feeling things are only going to get to be more about baby as time goes by!

Speaking of going to the doctor, that is just what we did yesterday. It was our first appointment at the Best Start Birth Center, where we have chosen to have little Sea Monkey. Anna, my sister-in-law had little Grace there TWO YEARS ago today! Happy Birthday, Grace! And today our friend Becky is having an appointment there too for her third child! So we have close people that love the place so we decided to give it a try.

Overall, we were very pleased with the initial care that we have received at Best Start. They have different midwives that do the prenatal checkups and then one of them is the one that will be there when Sea Monkey makes his/her entrance into the world! It's nice to establish a relationship with them and know that they will be there for the important moment.

We had a routine first examination yesterday, filled with paperwork and many questions. Then our midwife proceeded to get out the Doppler machine so that we could listen to Sea Monkey's heartbeat. At first, she could only find mine but after a few tries we were able to hear little Sea Monkey's strong heart beat! Unbelievable! We were also able to hear the little kiddo kicking. I couldn't feel it, but I could certainly hear the kicking. Be nice, Sea Monkey!

I told Michael this morning that I feel a new connection to Sea Monkey. Its weird how it happened but all of a sudden now I feel like it really is a real person inside of me! Michael was at the appointment too so he was able to be a part of everything and hear the heart beat also.

It was not all fun as our midwife had to do an examination too. I'll spare the details! Let's just say that hearing the heartbeat was the highlight of the day!

At our next appointment we'll get to see little Sea Monkey on an ultrasound. We are definitely looking forward to that. The only downside is that we have to wait a whole month for that to happen. Time has been flying by lately so I'm sure the day will come soon enough.

I think it's about time for some new belly pictures. It certainly feels bigger to me. I am now wearing maternity pants and sweat pants every day and looking out for maternity clothes. Fun times!
