Mother's Day '09

As you can imagine, this year's Mother's Day was a special one for me. Its so fun to have Elena around now and to have her to celebrate with me. Michael made it a special weekend by treating me to meals I like, washing the car and spending time with us. He asked me if I wanted Elena to get me a card and a gift and I told him that we can wait until she's old enough to do something herself! Now that I'm a mom, it definitely makes me appreciate my mom and the other moms in my life a lot more!

We had a fun weekend celebrating Mother's Day. On Saturday our church had a Mother's Day Spring Brunch. As always, it was good to be with the ladies from church and to be able to honor mothers in this way.

Babies, babies, babies everywhere

Mother's Day itself was wonderful! We had the family over to our house for lunch and the afternoon. Michael and Maria did most of the cooking for us as the mothers were forbidden from entering in the kitchen. It was such a treat! After a delicious tri tip meal, we just enjoyed each other's company. Later on in the day we had homemade ice cream and waffles for dinner. So good! Of course, I got some pictures taken with Elena. Here are a few (there were lots more taken!) of my favorites.

Elena also had some pictures taken of herself. She claps, claps, claps all the time now! She is so happy and shows it by clapping. She also loves to wave (when she wants to) and give five. As with most kids, she only "performs" when she wants to!

"The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.
She never existed before.
The woman existed, but the mother, never.
A mother is something absolutely new.
